The Yellow Jackets completed the season sweep (3-0) of UGA last night with an exciting 6-4 win. Leading the charge was Nick Galli, who completed his hat-trick as time expired in the third, and CJ Layer, who stopped 30 shots, in front of a sell-out crowd at The Ice. Taylor 'Birdman' Medford was honored as Tech's lone graduating senior for the year prior to the drop of the puck. Georgia Tech also got goals from Kenny McCrary (2), and Wes Roberts.
Tech was whistled for 8 penalties on the night while the Dawgs received only 2. 3 of UGA's 4 goals came on the power play. Down 4-3 with just over 8 minutes to go, the Yellow Jackets never backed down. Roberts buried the game winning goal with a little less than 4 minutes to go, and Tech hung on to their lead until Galli's goal at the final buzzer.
Georgia Tech has one more game scheduled for the regular season agianst Tennessee in Nashville next weekend. Whether or not the Jackets will see postseason play depends on where they fall in the year's final rankings. Should Tech not be ranked 10 or higher, Senior Taylor Medford will play his final game as a Yellow Jacket in Nashville. Birdman is applying to grad school at MIT and Stanford, and will be greatly missed on and off the Ice next season.
